Fezile Makhanya is a South African actor and television presenter best known as an SABC1 continuity presenter, from 2006-2008. Fezile was born and raised in a small location near Richards Bay called Esikhawini, now known as Esikhaleni in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Fezile is known to friends as Fezile, Gcwabaza. As a young boy he fell in love with sports, in particular rugby and athletics. As a result he received a scholarship at one of Durban’s most prestigious schools, Glenwood High School.
Holding athletics and rugby records for over a decade, he moved to Johannesburg for better exposure. Coming from an entrepreneurial family, his parents encouraged him to look beyond sports and study a business degree, while working on a part time basis.
He has acted in numerous television shows including the e.tv soapie Backstage, the crime series Jozi Streets, cameo roles on SABC1’s Generations and Gaz’lam, and the leading role of Sbu on the SABC1 soccer drama series Zone 14.
In 2006 he was chosen as an SABC1 brand ambassador after a nationwide search to find six new presenters. He competed in the “Multilingual” category, and began working as a continuity presenter on 1 July, 2006. His contract was terminated in 2008, after SABC1 decided to discontinue the use of continuity announcers.
