Later this month, the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence will kick off. This campaign is aimed at challenging violence against women and children.

This year, some of the country’s well-known faces have decided to be part of the solution. Celebrities like Hulisani Ravele, Kelly Khumalo, Nelisiwe Sibiya and Dineo Nchabeleng have teamed up with one of SA’s top production companies, Blackbrain Pictures, to work on a powerful campaign.

In a statement, campaign director Athi Petela said: “I am passionate about storytelling, I am a black woman and I know the hardships we face. I want this campaign to drive the message across that we will no longer tolerate abuse from men or anyone, a lot of people die in silence, with people watching.”

Petela added: “I hope this work inspires South Africans to stand up for each other and stop abuse, bringing abusers to book. I am excited about the people involved in this project, some survivors of these atrocities, some having encountered abuse in their families, some in relationships, we all know of someone that has been abused and this is why we need to stand up and do something.”

It’s no surprise that Cici has decided to be part of this production. The singer has been very vocal about her experience with domestic violence. The Iqiniso singer, who was romantically involved with Arthur Mafokate, has been open about how she was abused in the relationship. As a result of the alleged abuse, the singer might never be able to have children.
