Former President Jacob Zuma is expected to make an appearance in his capacity as private prosecutor in the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.
Zuma has to appear to ensure that his matter stays on the court roll in the private prosecution case against his successor, President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Zuma is accusing Ramaphosa of being an accessory after the fact after he lodged a complaint to Ramaphosa alleging that Prosecutor Billy Downer (SC) leaked his medical records during his corruption trial in the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court in Pietermaritzburg in contravention of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Act.
It is expected to be another brief appearance. This, in a series of legal attempts to privately prosecute the President.
In 2023, Ramaphosa successfully sought the court’s intervention to review and set aside the bid by his predecessor. A move Zuma sought to appeal before the full bench of the high court and lost.
The former President then petitioned the Supreme Court of Appeal but the appellate court dismissed it. Zuma has since asked the appeals court to reconsider.
