Police say investigations are under way into how 90 undocumented Ethiopian nationals were trafficked to South Africa. They were found locked in rooms at a property in Sunnydale Ridge, Johannesburg. Police have since rescued and taken them to hospital for medical care.
The national police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says two alleged human traffickers and kidnappers found on the property have now been arrested.
“A multidisciplinary team led by the Special Task Force was tracing a victim of kidnapping for ransom when they they also discovered the undocumented nationals. Amongst the Ethiopian nationals was the kidnapped victim who was also rescued. He was kidnapped in Benoni on Tuesday afternoon, and immediately after that his family started receiving ransom demands.”
