Police Minister Bheki Cele wants a task team to get to the bottom of recent murders of political figures in KwaZulu-Natal.
Cele also wants unsolved cases re-investigated.
This comes after the killing of another councillor in KZN.
On Thursday, Ethekwini municipal councillor Sbu Maphumulo was gunned down outside his home in Umlazi after returning from an ANC meeting.
Reports suggest Maphumulo had been aware that his life was in danger.
Cele has described the shooting as a well-orchestrated hit.

Addressing mourners at his funeral, the minister assured the family police are close to catching the killers.
