Actress Simphiwe Ngema recently announced in an Instagram post that she would be releasing her late husband Dumisani Masilela’s last recorded single.
It’s been a year since Dumi was fatally shot during a hijacking in Tembisa and 27-year-old Simphiwe Ngema at the time was forced to pick up the pieces.
Simphiwe who has always been public about the difficulties of coming to terms with the sudden death of her newly wedded husband, shared in a post that she would be dropping one of Dumi’s last recorded songs UPhushiwe on the Fresh Breakfast show on Metro FM.
“UPhushiwe drops tomorrow on the #freshbreakfast show at 6:00am on metro fm. Catch Simphiwe Ngema’s live interview,” she captioned the cover picture of single on Tuesday.
During the interview on the fresh Breakfast show on Metro FM with show host DJ Fresh, the 28-year-old actress opened up about how she felt listening to the brand new single played on national radio.
“It feels so different that he’s not here sharing this moment with us,” she said.
“I’m here with his two best friends Bongani and Thato, we know if he was here he’d probably be screaming and whatever you know…climbing the walls cause he was just that energy. He was, he was amazing,” she said speaking fondly of her late husband.
Gauteng police have since arrested the sixth suspect who was involved in the 2017 murder case of former Rhythm City actor Dumi.
While on the show Simphiwe also spoke about how she has been dealing with her grief and the difficulties she has faced being a young widow.
“For me, I have done what I felt was comfortable for me and I have lived my life the way I want to live it and I didn’t care what anyone says because like I said at his funeral, this is not a normal situation you do not get prepared to be a 27-year-old widow. How does someone prepare you for that? So for me it was living my truth I had to live my truth” she said.
“Feel everything,” Simphiwe Ngema said speaking to women who had gone through the same experience.
“Let yourself feel, allow the tears, if you don’t feel like doing anything don’t do anything but at the same time don’t cry for too long because that will lead you to depression.”
Simphiwe described hope as something that encouraged her to keep going and dream again.
“I had to start hoping again because after Dumi passed away everything came crumbling down for me.”
The former Muvhango actress who recently announced her painful decision to let go of her wedding ring, also emphasised on the importance of learning to dream again on her own,
“My dreams, I mean we dreamt together…so that means everything I had dreamt of was wiped out so I had to start dreaming again and start hoping again”
“I had to remember who Simphiwe was before Dumi and what Simphiwe’s dreams were before Dumi which was the hardest thing to do…” Simphiwe added.
Although living without Dumi has been tough, Simphiwe continues to remember her husband through his funniest memories.
“There are a lot of memories but one that stands out right now is that he was late for our wedding on the second day,” she said before reminiscing back to the day.
“So as we’re driving and he’s not dressed and he’s running to the house…lucky enough a friend of mine took a video of him running to the house, so I think that was funny”
Dumi’s last recorded single will be available on all digital platforms as of next week.
