R563 collision

Two people were airlifted following a collision along the R563 near Hekpoort this afternoon.

Shortly after 12.30pm on Sunday afternoon, paramedics from ER24, Westrand District Fire as well as other emergency services arrived on the scene where they found a light motor vehicle near the side of the road. Three women were found inside the vehicle with multiple injuries. All three were trapped and had to be freed by the Westrand District Fire Department.

The ER24 Oneplan Medical Helicopter as well as another medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift two of the women to hospital. They had sustained critical injuries. The third woman was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. She was treated for multiple serious injuries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision is not yet known. Local authorities attended the scene.
