Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has given journalist, Redi Tlhabi, an ultimatum.
He’s ordered her to apologise for a series of tweets on the visa regulations.
Gigaba says Tlhabi must apologise by 5pm today, or be sued for damages.
Tlhabi tweeted about the minister’s decision to change visa regulations, indicating this was based on personal circumstances.
She called Gigaba arrogant and divisive.
A copy of the proclamation approving the regulations @RediTlhabi saw fit to despicably drag my daughter into. She has until 17h00, tomorrow, to withdraw and apologise for her malicious lies, failing which she will have to start raising money for a hefty damages claim. pic.twitter.com/WiSml63GnS

@mgigaba how do you do it?How do you just come & repeal regulations that barely 3 yrs ago, you were warned were impractical, destructive & untested? We asked for feasibility studies & empirical evidence. Instead you & your minions were labeling & lashing out at anyone who asked & https://t.co/UYBZjPz0vc

Gigaba then fired back, saying the regulations were passed long before he was at the Home Affairs department.
Dear @RediTlhabi, did you know that the requirement for parents to consent to their children’s departure from SA is a provision of s18(3) of the Children’s Act of 2005? And did you know that the regulations giving effect to this requirement were adopted while I was still at DPE?

Tlhabi denies making those comments.
