The ANC could lose the only metro it governs in Gauteng if the DA has its way.
Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina faces a motion of no confidence on Thursday after being accused of poor service delivery and failure to investigate possible corruption.
The ANC managed to take control of Ekurhuleni through a fragile coalition two years ago.
Members of the ANC led-coalition expressed their confidence in Masina, but the DA believes not everyone is on board.
A secret vote could just aid the DA.
The 25 votes would push the ANC coalition below the 113 vote threshold needed to defeat the motion.
The EFF, which has 25 seats, is mum about their strategy.
Masina instructed the ANC caucus to “be disciplined, follow the debate, and vote correctly”.
