According to the South African National TB Association, more than 130,000 tuberculosis patients in South Africa are unaccounted for and the NGO has been searching for them for three months.
These patients are putting their own lives at risk, and are also risking infection for those around them.
Dumisani Adoons from the South African National TB Association says the patients are classified as “missing” because they have not checked in with health practitioners for outpatient treatment.
Adoons urged patients to return for treatment despite uncomfortable side-effects of strong medication used to treat the disease.
