The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has rejected criticism that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s speech did not have details on international matters because there is an issue of disagreement in the Government of National Unity.
Some opposition parties say international relations were downplayed because of the ANC’s stance on Palestine. But Mbalula says the ANC will not stop to fight for the rights of all people. He addressed the media in Cape Town.
“The President reaffirmed the principles of this government in terms of foreign policy. Human rights, self determination, freedom of people, that is what South Africa will do and will do working with others, up until Palestine is free, Western Sahara is free, there will be no retreat on our part.
Mbalula calls on ANC members to focus on restoring the movement: Meanwhile, Mbalula says the party can’t focus on leadership squabbles if it wants to regain its position as the country’s governing party. Mbalula says the ANC’s leadership is aware of the warning signs that came with election results.
“We are in a big, big, big problem. The big challenge (is being below) 40%. There are still people that are entertaining (questions of) who must be the leader of the ANC. They live for that. We can’t be a party like that. (It’s) either we change or we ship out,” he says.
