Update on Bonang taxi drama, to appear in court

Bonang Matheba

The article titled, “Bonang in trouble with the taxman”, appeared in Sunday World on 23 September, comes after the publication last month said that it stands by its tax fraud claims, despite Matheba seeking R10 million in damages for the report.

Following its August claims that Bonang Matheba was due in court over alleged tax fraud, Sunday World now reports that the media personality will take the witness stand on Thursday.

Sunday World most recent reports claim that Matheba will “Thursday step into the witness box at the Johannesburg Specialised Commercialised Crimes Court to face charges of fraud”. The article also claims that the TV personality has been charged with tax fraud relating to personal and business tax.

“…the Hawks, charged the likeable model and TV presenter with fraud relating to her personal and business tax,” an extract from the article reads.

Last month, IOL Entertainment tried to ascertain which part of the Sunday World’s tax fraud claims Matheba was refuting. When asked whether she was being investigated for tax fraud, her legal representative Charl Coetzee did not deny or confirm the investigation claim, only that she “was never summonsed, nor did she appear in court”.

“Ms Matheba was never summonsed, nor did she appear in court. Sunday World ran a false story this last Sunday that stated Ms Matheba appeared in court when she didn’t,” he said.

At the time, Matheba also got into a heated online spat with entertainment commentator Phil Mphela after he weighed in her seeking damages from Sunday World.

And while Matheba did not respond to the recent report, she did share her appreciation for her latest accolade after she bagged the Best Media Personality at the 2018 International Achievement Recognition Awards (IARA) at the weekend.
